DALLAS International Film Festival Artistic Director James Faust interviewed actor John Hawkes who brilliantly played Teardrop in the movie Winter’s Bone which the Dallas International Film Festival audience loved viewing. The Magnolia Theatre in West Village parallels the vibrancy of the film festival. The development of West Village created much spunk and action to the Turtle Creek neighborhoods. Sweet Science Is a Movie That Celebrates the Success of Oak Cliff Boxing Club

Dallas resident Chris Howell directed the movie Sweet Science which is supported by many prominent people in Dallas. The film follows the seven year journey of young kids to national and international prominence in the world of boxing. The film was about Oak Cliff, but the audience was from Munger Place, Highland Park, Preston Hollow, Bluffview, and Oak Cliff. The athletes, coaches, and director answered questions from the Dallas community interested in the arts.

DALLAS Film Festival Features Thunder Soul at the Angelika Theater at Mockingbird Station

The DALLAS International Film Festival at the Angelika Film Center at Mockingbird Station located in East Dallas featured the documentary film Thunder Soul about Houston’s legendary Kashmere High School Stage Band. Movie patrons from across Dallas, including residents from the Park Cities, Turtle Creek Corridor, and Kessler Park, enjoyed viewing the film and hearing Mark Landsman, the director of the film, discuss this incredible story of how low income kids formed the first black high school show band that went on to win the national championship and tour Europe.
